Dude of the Week: España

With the World Cup ending on Sunday, I think this honor should go to the winners. That is why this week I will be giving Dude of the Week to the whole country of Spain. I mean, it is hard to watch that final game on Sunday and not give the whole country this prestigious honor. Spain dominated that entire game and gave Argentina a little too much hope when they had to finish it in overtime.
This was my first World Cup as a spectator (yes, I used to play for Uruguay), and it was nothing short of awesome. The energy in every game was just electric. The World Cup definitely went up in my rankings of sports tournaments. Congratulations to this week's Dude of the Week: the whole country of Spain.

Glue Guy of the Year
This past week, Oakland Athletics player Joshua Kuroda-Grauer took a foul ball straight to the nuts!
Now us men know a shot to the nuts absolutely sucks, but generally speaking, you give it 5 or 10 minutes and the pain usually goes away. Unfortunately for our guy Joshua, that wasn't the case. The foul ball got him so good he ruptured his testy and needed emergency surgery.
So all in all, just a brutal story… BUT there’s more.
Before heading off for surgery Josh got up, hung in the box, and hit a base knock to advance a runner from 1st to 3rd… THEN WENT AND GOT SURGERY.
If that isn’t glue guy of the year material, I don’t know what is. After watching all these soccer players act like blatant pussies in the world cup, it’s refreshing to see a man with some real ball(s).

Northwestern is Back ?
Northwestern's new stadium is so nice it's starting to feel like football is just one of the amenities. The place looks less like a college stadium and more like a luxury resort that happens to have a field in the middle. Pretty soon, fans are going to show up wondering if their ticket includes valet parking, complimentary sparkling water, and a robe for halftime. Visiting teams won't be intimidated by the crowd—they'll be distracted trying to figure out where the rooftop lounge is.
At this rate, Northwestern isn't just building home-field advantage; they're creating the nicest place in America to lose a football game. Even if the Wildcats are rebuilding, at least everyone can enjoy doing it from seats that probably have a better view than most apartments in Evanston. If the team starts winning consistently, great. If not, at least recruits can honestly say, "The facilities are unbelievable," and nobody will think they're exaggerating.

This Week in History
This week is special. Fifty-seven years ago this week, the U.S. and the world made history. On July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 mission launched and we sent three men to the Moon. On July 21, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to step foot on the Moon. This was one of the most historic moments in the world. When you think about the technology that was around back then, it is absolutely insane.
We still have not been back to the Moon with boots on the ground since. The mission lasted from liftoff on the 16th until splashdown on the 24th. Just a great accomplishment for the world and for the history of humankind.

The Run is Over
After winning 15 straight games and tying the franchies record… the Boston Red Sox fell to the Orioles. It was a hell of a run, and Boston is firmly in the playoff race because of it.
