Dude of the Week: Dan Gilbert

There are not many times in sports that you can give owners a compliment. But this week I think everyone can agree that what Dan Gilbert did for Cavs fans was awesome. Dan Gilbert sent multiple buses of Cavs fans up to Detroit and paid for all expenses. I mean it does not get much better than that in terms of proper ownership.

For Game 2 in Detroit Gilbert sent 2 buses full of Cavs fans. For Game 5 in Detroit he sent 8 buses full of Cavs fans and for Game 7 he sent 25 BUSES. All of these fans also received food and beverages before the game. You rarely see this type of behavior from any owner doesn't matter the league. Every fan in any sport I think would want this.

Nowadays it can feel like most owners look at franchises as just businesses. While they are businesses they are also a huge part of culture in cities. Having an owner who cares about their team's fans is refreshing to see. Gilbert has struggled with health problems as well as the loss of his son three years ago Nick Gilbert. Through all of this Gilbert has proven to not only be a good person but a great owner for the city of Cleveland.

Congratulations and thank you to this week’s Dude of the Week Dan Gilbert. Let’s also start a petition to get Gilbert to buy the Guardians and kick out that penny pincher Paul Dolan.

The Tarps Off Movement has Taken Over

Over the past two weeks the “Tarps off movement” has completely taken over the MLB. It all started in St. Louis where a couple guys just decided to be dudes and take their tarps off at a ball game.

@daydrinkmedia

Guys being dudes. Awesome stuff coming out of St. Louis #guysbeingdudes #ftb #fyp #tarpsoff #daydrink

Since starting in St. Louis the “Tarps Off Movement” has spread league wide hitting cities all across the MLB.

I absolutely love to see the guys getting out and having some good ole fashioned fun. Give me some faith in our country that our society maybe isn’t on a steady decline.

That said, let’s not forget where the tarps off movement started here fellas. My buddies and I have have been pulling this move for nearly half a decade:

Photo #1: October 12th, 2024 – The boys take our tarps off, next thing you know Lane Thomas hits a cockshot grandy and the tribe take home the ALDS… Coincidence? I THINK NOT.

Photo #2: December 17, 2023 – Joe Flacco dices the Chicago Bears and the Brownies win 20-17… Coincidence? I THINK NOT.

John Travolta - Lost it

John Travolta just finished directing his first movie and decided this was the outfit to roll out for the media tour, claiming it was “paying homage” to old-school directors.

John… you’ve completely lost me here. What the hell is this ? You look like a confused French art professor that I wouldn’t know the gender of going through an identity crisis in the middle of a Paris café.

Ohio Owns Michigan

THE WHOLE STATE OF DETROIT CAN BOW DOWN TO OHIO. 2025-2026 was not the year for Detroit sports fans and I mean really not the year. Michigan lost to Ohio State 27-9 was just the first of Michigan's magnificent run of terrible losses.

Next up the number 1 seed Detroit Pistons. The Pistons had a very promising regular season, beat Orlando in 7 after being down 3-1 and then took a 2-0 lead on the Cavs in round 2. Buttttt then DONOVAN VERNELL MITCHELL JR decided it was his time. The Cavs come back down 2-0 in the series to take 2 games in Detroit, ON YO OWN TURF DETROIT. The Cavs dug deep and beat out this Pistons team whose offense was hard to watch at times.

Sure Cade Cunningham is a great player and a future face of this league, but Detroit needs to find him some more help. Duren was non-existent in this series and their second option was Tobias Harris which is laughable. He is the Kirk Cousins of the NBA, lotta money and a lotta nothing.

Then after a crushing game 7 loss on Sunday the Cleveland Guardians took a little trip along Lake Erie to show the Tigers what a real baseball team looks like. They have currently won 2-4 games in the series and are looking to take the third on Wednesday. Now granted the Tigers might possibly take the record for most injured players ever. 7 pitchers in their starting rotation are hurt and like 4 field players are also hurt.

But I really do not care, I love winning at any cost and any chance at making Michigan fans sad just brings me pure pleasure.

Investors see ANOTHER return from Masterworks (!!!!)

That’s 6 sales in 7 months. 29 all time. And the performance?

16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, net annualized returns on sold works held longer than one year (See all 29 at Masterworks.com)

It’s not from stocks, private equity, or real estate… it’s from contemporary and post war art. Crazy, right?

With Masterworks, you don’t need to be a BILLIONAIRE to invest in multi-million dollar art anymore.

Historically, the segment overall has had attractive appreciation and low correlation to stocks.*

Masterworks targets works featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso, identifying what they believe to have significant long-term appreciation potential, not just at the artist level but at the level of individual artworks.

As one of the largest players in the art market, with $1.3 billion invested over 500 artworks, they pass critical advantages through to their 70,000+ members to add art to their portfolios strategically.

Aaron Rodgers Final Trip

In a shocking development that has somehow occurred every February since 2018, Aaron Rodgers has once again hinted that he will retire after this season, setting off a nationwide emergency among sports talk radio hosts who had briefly hoped to discuss literally anything else.

Sources close to Rodgers say the future Hall of Fame quarterback spent the offseason “deep in reflection,” which reportedly involved darkness retreats, cryptic Instagram posts, long pauses during podcasts, and staring thoughtfully at a candle while Joe Rogan nodded aggressively.

As a Bears fan I am excited for this charade to finally come to an end next year. All I am hoping for is that Rodgers does not consider a job calling the games because I REFUSE to look at this guy on my TV any longer than I have to.
